Reality TV star Nelson Thomas, known for his appearances on The Challenge, is facing new medical complications following a serious car accident last month. Nelson reached out to his fans, requesting their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
The accident occurred in April in Texas and was particularly severe, resulting in his car catching fire. Several courageous individuals rescued Nelson from the burning vehicle before medical and emergency personnel arrived. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries to address his injuries, including a muscle skin graft to repair his ankle.
Nelson had been discharged from the hospital a few weeks ago and expressed his determination to dedicate the upcoming months to his recovery. However, his recent updates suggest that he may have encountered another setback.
On Friday, Nelson took to his Instagram Story to share a photo of himself lying on a hospital bed. In the image, his shirt is lifted, and a nurse or doctor can be seen examining his chest or heart with a medical device. His surgically-repaired leg and ankle are wrapped up and slightly elevated on a pillow as he undergoes the test or procedure.
In the accompanying caption, Nelson revealed that he would be spending a couple of days in the hospital. He explained that he was dealing with an infection in his lungs and fluid around his heart, causing significant pain for the past three days. He earnestly requested his followers to pray for him during this challenging time.
It’s worth noting that Nelson had already spent a considerable amount of time in the hospital immediately after the car crash last month. At one point, he expressed pessimism about his condition, stating that things were not looking favorable. However, he recently seemed to have regained a positive outlook and was focused on his recovery.
Earlier this month, Nelson’s spirits were lifted when his fellow Texas residents and Challenge castmates Kam Williams and Leroy Garrett, along with their son Kingston, paid him a visit at home. This heartwarming visit provided him with much-needed encouragement.
Following the accident, Nelson’s friend created a GoFundMe campaign to help him cover the substantial medical expenses, which amounted to $200,000. The campaign has been receiving additional donations, and as of now, over $56,000 has been raised towards the goal.
Nelson has been a recurring face on The Challenge, appearing in consecutive seasons with MTV’s Ride or Dies and later joining MTV Legends on The Challenge: World Championship. While the filming of the second season of The Challenge: USA is nearing completion, Nelson was unable to participate due to his ongoing circumstances.
