Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra slammed the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for their selection during the 81-run loss against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai on Wednesday, May 24. Aakash Chopra believes that Amit Mishra would’ve been effective in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 “Eliminator” game.
The Mumbai Indians scored 182 runs in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. The Krunal Pandya-led team managed to score 101 runs in 16.3 innings while chasing a target. They Got Him To Bowl Just One Over – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator pointed out that Krishnappa Gowtham played as a spinner but bowled only one over in the innings. Chopra believes that Mishra would’ve troubled the overseas batters Tim David and Cameron Green in a must-win encounter.
“I think he (Mishra) has bowled seven to ten deliveries to Ishan Kishan and dismissed him thrice, but they don’t play him. They play Krishnappa Gowtham saying they need an off-spinner. They got him to bowl just one over. He bowled just the second over of the game and then did not bowl at all,” he continued.
“You did the same thing last time as well. You got Swapnil Singh to bowl just one over and then didn’t give him another over. Why do you play them? A leg-spinner is sitting outside who will bowl four overs and pick up wickets. Whether they have Tim David or Cameron Green, he is a leg-spinner, he is Amit Mishra,” he concluded.
Gowtham came to bowl the second over of the innings and conceded just 8 runs in the over. However, he didn’t get a chance to bowl thereafter in the innings despite left-handed batters Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, and Nehal Wadhera being in the Mumbai Indians batting line-up.
