Chicago P.D. Season 11 Faces Delay as Writers’ Strike Disrupts Fall 2023 Schedule
Fans of the popular drama series Chicago P.D. will have to exercise patience as the anticipated Season 11 may not hit the airwaves in the fall of 2023 as initially planned. NBC had greenlit a new season, intending to include it in the television lineup for the 2023-2024 season. However, a significant hurdle has arisen in the form of a strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA), affecting all scripted shows.
The primary focus of the WGA strike is to advocate for improved compensation and greater rights for writers. The landscape of the entertainment industry is rapidly evolving, with streaming services and artificial intelligence playing an increasingly prominent role. These factors have raised concerns among writers regarding their future in Hollywood.
In a show of solidarity, many actors and actresses have rallied behind the striking writers, among them Jesse Lee Soffer, a star of the One Chicago franchise. Soffer was recently seen joining Chicago P.D. writer Derek Haas on the picket lines, demonstrating their shared support for the cause.
As a consequence of the strike, production on all scripted shows has come to a halt. This means that writers are unable to create new scripts, casts are unable to rehearse their lines, and crews cannot proceed with constructing sets. The duration of the strike remains uncertain, leading networks to make adjustments to their fall schedules. ABC, for instance, has removed Grey’s Anatomy and The Conners from its lineup, substituting them with reality shows.
Over at CBS, plans are underway to extend the duration of new Survivor episodes, while rumors circulate about the postponement of Big Brother 25 to fill primetime slots in the fall.
Notably, NBC has found success in airing repeat episodes of the One Chicago shows. It is possible that earlier episodes of Chicago P.D. could be utilized as a temporary solution to fill gaps in the schedule until the strike is resolved.
If the strike persists throughout the summer, production on scripted shows may not commence until the fall of 2023. Consequently, the start dates for various series could be pushed back to the winter months. In a worst-case scenario, fans may have to wait until January 2024 for the much-anticipated Season 11 of Chicago P.D. to begin.
This news will undoubtedly be disheartening to fans who may not yet be aware of the WGA strike. Nevertheless, there is a silver lining in the fact that new episodes of Chicago P.D. have already been commissioned, ensuring that they will eventually make their way to screens, albeit with a delay.
